QR Codes in the Real-World by Shane Lawrence

Shane will be presenting on the concept and real-world applications of linking physical objects and places to their online counterparts.

Most commonly seen in the form of QR Codes ("quick response barcodes") and NFC, object linking is taking advantage of the growing Smartphone market to forge new connections for mobile users and developers

NFC: The Next Evolution in Mobile by Daryl Chymko

Daryl will be talking on NFC (Near Field Communications), a technology similar to RFID that allows mobile phones to communicate with 'tags', readers or other mobile devices. The biggest advances are currently being made in the payments field (think Google Wallet) but there are many other applications of the technology such as gaming and social media. Daryl will provide hands-on demos of the technology as well as discussion as to where the it is headed and how soon it will come into practical use.

The Evening

It doesn't take an 'Einstein' to deduce that when the heat of the summer is intense, it's time to seek a hospitable refuge. Come and join our oasis of knowledge and share a frosty pint or two with the OKDG crew at the upcoming OKDG meetup on June 19, 2011.

The Bike Shop Cafe and Catering Co. has warmly welcomed us back to use their restaurant as a meeting venue. There will be food, beverages and alcohol available throughout the evening.

The Event

Our first presenter Shane Lawrence will introduce practical applications for QR codes for SmartPhones.

Next Daryl Chymko will extend the discussion on mobile technologies with information and examples of NFC capabilities for modern mobile apps.
