Technology and social control by Christopher Schneider

A follow-up discussion to the recent UBC Dialogues panel Is technology connecting us? Or controlling us?. UBCO Assistant Professor of Sociology Christopher Schneider sits down with Chad Kohalyk to have a critical discussion about how technology influences the social and political lives of humans. Are we being "controlled" by our own tools? What is the role of consumer culture, the media and other institutions? Be sure to bring your questions as we pick Dr. Schneider's brain for answers in recent academic research.

Designer Day by Barb Marcolin

Following in the tradition of the recent "Maker Day" and Design Thinking, I am fostering a "Designer Day" to interject real-life developers and designers with my current Undergraduate class at Faculty of Management, UBC, Okanagan Campus. Open to input and suggestions.

Barb looks forward to discussing how we can create such an event in March 2014 introducing the skills and techniques of design and development to the business school students. The students bring fundamental business skills and keen thinking to the mix.

This past weekend we held the Entrepreneur Boot Camp at UBCO which was a resounding success and we hope to build more ties with the development community. See the schedule for the types of things we are doing.

The Bike Shop Cafe and Catering Co. has warmly welcomed us back to use their restaurant as a meeting venue. There will be food, beverages and alcohol available throughout the evening.
